Nazli Rafei Dehkordi

Researcher, Environmental Engineer, Data Science

About

Nazli was born in Iran. She received his B.S. degree from I.K.I.U University, Qazvin, Iran in 2013, Two master’s degrees one in Civil-Environmental Engineering from K. N. Toosi University of Technology in 2015, and one master’s degree from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts in 2021. From 2018 to the present, she is working as a Research Assistant in an Army-funded project on the removal of explosives from water. Her research interests include environmental engineering, environmental chemistry, analytical Chemistry, Electrochemical methods for the removal of contaminants, and applying numerical methods (machine learning, deep learning algorithms) in modeling contaminants’ behavior in the environment.

Before joining Northeastern, I worked in a structural company for a couple of years. We were designing different types of structures from parking to mega malls.

While studying MSc, I worked as a research and teaching assistant at K. N. Toosi University of Technology. My master thesis was “Investigating Methods of Petroleum Wastewater Treatment by the Combination of Activated Sludge, Rotating Biological Contractor (RBC) and Sand Filtration with the Objective of Reuse” and it was Funded by National Iranian Oil Co., Ministry of Energy, Tehran, IRAN.

About

While working on my Ph.D. research, I had to develop a kinetic model for the removal of explosives, which needed knowledge of machine learning, so I started taking courses in the data science and computer science departments, having taken a few courses, I found myself substantially passionate towards data science. Hence, I decided to take a master’s degree in data analytics. At the same time with my Ph.D. I succeed to complete all courses and credits needed and I received my master’s in data analytics in December 2021.

Then, to take my knowledge to a higher level, and tackle real-world data science problems. I participated in an Intense two-month data science fellowship program. the acceptance rate for the data incubator fellowship is less than 2% and I managed to get into the program. After eight weeks of hard work, I succeed to complete and get a certificate.
